Notable Events
During 1958, Alan Ayckbourn…○ rejoined Theatre in the Round at the Library Theatre, Scarborough, for the summer and winter seasons after leaving Oxford Playhouse.
○ complained to Stephen Joseph, Artistic Director of Theatre in the Round at the Library Theatre, about the quality of his role in David Campton's Ring Of Roses; Stephen challenged Alan to write his own play with a better role for himself.
○ wrote a number of unproduced plays (between 1957 and 1959) which included: The Season; Relative Values; Mind Over Murder; The Party Game. Most of these plays are now lost and none have been performed.
○ became engaged to the actress Christine Roland - another member of the Studio Theatre Ltd company - whilst on tour in September / October to Leicester (immediately prior to this he had been engaged to one of the company's stage management team, Ann Summers, for several months).
