> Rejoins the Library Theatre, Scarborough, for the summer and winter seasons.

> Complains to Stephen Joseph, Artistic Director of the Library Theatre, about the quality of his role in David Campton's
Ring Of Roses; Stephen challenges Alan to write his own play with a better role for himself.

> Between 1957 and his first professional produced play in 1959, Alan writes a number of plays (mostly now lost) which include:
The Season; Relative Values; Mind Over Murder; The Party Game. None of these plays are ever performed.
