Notable Events

Rejoins the Library Theatre, Scarborough, for the summer and winter seasons.

Complains to Stephen Joseph, Artistic Director of the Library Theatre, about the quality of his role in David Campton's Ring Of Roses; Stephen challenges Alan to write his own play with a better role for himself.

Between 1957 and his first professional produced play in 1959, Alan writes a number of plays (mostly now lost) which include: The Season; Relative Values; Mind Over Murder; The Party Game. None of these plays are ever performed.

Becomes engaged to the actress Christine Roland - another member of the Studio Theatre Ltd company - whilst on tour in September / October to Leicester (immediately prior to this he had been engaged to one of the company's stage management team for several months).
