During 1964, Alan Ayckbourn…○ left the Victoria Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent, to concentrate on playwriting.
○ saw Mr Whatnot become his first play to transfer to the West End. It received dreadful reviews and closed after just three weeks at the New Arts Theatre, London.
○ successfully applied for a job at the BBC as a Radio Drama Producer in Leeds following the failure of Mr Whatnot.
○ acted professionally on stage for the final time in Two For The Seesaw at Rotherham Civic Theatre opposite Heather Stoney.
